High Point Fire Station 3
1309 Chestnut Dr, High Point, NC
The goals for High Point Fire Station 3—a replacement for an antiquated, obsolete station—were twofold. The City wanted an attractive civic building with appropriate scale for its residential surroundings, and a well-functioning station to serve its primary purpose as an emergency response center.
Major spaces abut the apparatus room. This provides short, direct routes to the trucks from any place within the building. Located on the front for visibility, the dayroom-kitchen is served by an outdoor patio with a grill. Sleeping areas are located at the rear for privacy and quiet. The locker room, which serves to separate the two, is accessible from both sides—a very convenient arrangement. All rooms open directly off the bays to enhance rapid response. Support and cleanup spaces line the apparatus room in order to facilitate the return to readiness after a call. It is a station built for the convenience of the firefighters.
